| Today, the students began preparing the materials for the taiko drum build. Much of this preparation came in the form of measuring, drawing and cutting wood. The Skin Team worked on the stencil that will be used to make holes in the drum rawhide. |
We made a few discoveries today--namely, the staves of the wooden sake barrel are not glued together as we had previously assumed. This puts a bit of a damper on our original plan to move straight to sanding. We will have to wait to get a ratchet. | |
| Once the Stretching Stand Team finished their marking, the rest of the class got to work sawing the wood. Nothing like a good day of hard work! For the moment, we will continue to build the stretching stand and prepare the skin. |
