The kids were happy to see the drum finished in time for their performance on Friday. We are hoping the drum will dry in time!
Today was our last day of drum building. The kids helped mark and drill holes into the sides of the drum. Then we all hammered in tack together. The kids were happy to see the drum finished in time for their performance on Friday. We are hoping the drum will dry in time!

A small, brave group of students set up the stretching stand and did the first stretch for the underside of the drum! It worked better than we hoped! Now that the staves of the drum body are glued together and the insides have been drilled, we are moving on to sanding the rim to prepare for skinning. The stretching stand team finished their final drills. We started to drill into the based of the stretching stand. This will allow us to put caster son the bottom of the stretching stand. The skin team continued to hammer holes into the drum skin, and the drum team used hand drills to make indents inside the body of the drum. Work continues on the taiko project! Nobu and Satone have joined us and they are picking up skills quickly. |
